Babilon Mobile optimizes monetization and monitoring of its SMS traffic with the SMS Firewall solution from Eastwind |

In 2019, the Tajik telecom operator Babilon Mobile announced a tender for the purchase of new SMS traffic monitoring software. The old solution did not allow viewing the whole picture of incoming traffic or setting filtering rules, offering only minimum reporting. That was contrary to the company's policy – the operator wanted to have the full control of the processes. Out of the four bidders, the operator chose Eastwind SMS Firewall.
Convenient filtering has made the traffic monetization process more streamlined and transparent: the operator blocks A2P messages from providers with whom it has no contracts, and then the roaming department contacts those to offer collaboration. In this way, for the operator it means that all “gray” traffic is legalized and starts bringing profit.
The users are more satisfied, since the new system filters spam, which used to cause problems and frustration. Scam often sent subscribers SMS asking them to make a callback in an expensive direction: subscribers were charged for the calls – complaints ensued. The new firewall solution includes a heuristic analysis module installed in the customer's system, which effectively intercepts spam campaigns. As a result, those are now effectively screened, and unwanted messages is generally reduced to zero.
In 2020, negotiations began on the installation of an incoming signaling traffic filter for the SS7 system. The operator wants to cut off rogue USSD requests, and routing signaling traffic to Eastwind SMS Firewall would be the optimal solution for the task.
The operator first turned to Eastwind more than 10 years ago. The new project has strengthened the long-standing business ties and showed the customer that the developer keeps the quality bar high for its products and services.
Deadline was critical to the SMS Firewall case, and the installation was completed on time. The system operates well, and today, a year after the installation, the vendor’s tech support has not logged a single complaint from Babilon Mobile. That is why to implement the new feature, signal traffic filtering, the operator again chooses Eastwind.
